Rafael Albuquerque

About

Born in 1981, in Porto Alegre, south of Brazil, Rafael Albuquerque
begun his professional artist career working for advertising,
producing illustrations for local companies. The comic book interest,
however, started in 2002, when he decided to work exclusively for the
publishing market.
Basically all of his portfolio was shown only at internet, and trough
this media came his first comic book job. The Egyptian company AK
Comics asked for some samples, and then he got his first gig overseas.
Rafael“s colaboration (not only as artist, but sometimes as creator)
was very important for the company.
The main works at AK Comics were Jalila, Zein and most of all, Rakan.
At this moment, overloaded of work, Rafael realized that he would need
more structure to deal with all this books, so, in 2005, he created
the PopArt Studio, a team of good comic creators to produce more
titles monthly and deal with owner creator projects.

The first project created at PopArt Studio was Rumble in La Rambla
(now called Crimeland), created by Rafael Albuquerque and the writer
Felipe Ferreira, released by Image Comics.
This project have some good critiques in specialized media, resulting
in some new job offers. In the partnership with Boom!Studios, Rafael
drew series like Savage Brothers (writter by Andrew Cosby and Johanna
Stokes), Pirate Tales (writter by Chris Ward) and Jeremiah Harm
(created by Keith Giffen and Alan Grant).
In 2006, Rafael started working for DC Comics drawing Blue Beetle, and
he is currently the regular artist.
