American Vampire Day

American Vampire has arrived to the stores today, and there are some good reviews arround!

“Albuquerque could tell this story by himself — or at least the parts that the captions try to clear up — and his work on this issue is amazing. That’s right. Amazing. If you think you’ve seen his style on Blue Beetle or Superman/Batman, well, you have, but it’s not his only style. And in American Vampire #1 he uses two different approaches to tell two different kinds of stories. And both visual styles look, well, as I said, amazing.”

-Timothy Callahan (Comic Book Resources)

“Even if you’re not interested in an alternate history of the US as populated by a new breed of bloodsucker, you owe it to your eyeballs to pick it up for the artwork of Rafael Albuquerque alone. Really, a spectacular-looking book.”

-Graeme McMillan - Io9

“After reading the first issue we can say that the resulting comic here is something far more than the sum of those familiar parts, and beautiful besides, thanks to the spectacular art of Albuquerque.”

-Laura Hudson - Comic Alliance

“Albuquerque’s art is phenomenal, and to his credit he and colorist Dave McCaig are able to adjust to the time period of both stories. t’s a remarkable book to behold in terms of artistic ability, and a prime example of what is possible when every member of the creative team comes together to create a unified vision of their story.”

-Joey Esposito - Crave

It’s good to know that American Vampire will take its unique character and skip him across many different decades; the story possibilities are abundant. Add Rafael Albuquerque’s excellent art, which mixes shadowy action with bright sunlight and sketchy characters, and you’ve got one promising new series.

Wizard #223 Interview

March 2nd, 2010
Posted in News

Just saw the interview I did for Wizard Magazine, talking, mostly about American Vampire. This is pretty cool because when i started to draw, internet wasnt that popular (young fellas) and we used to know about what was going on in the comics business monthly, trough Wizard Magazine. Its really special for me to be there (about 13, 14 years later).

Below a scan of it, if you can get, pay attention: Issue 223. I had to download a scan (shame on me), still waiting for my copy.

Rafael.

Running as hell to finish American Vampire here, so, no time for blogging updates. Here are two covers i did recently for Mark Waid’s new book, called Incorruptible, for Boom!Studios. These covers were released a while ago, but just now I saw they have been shown already.

Enjoy!

Some time ago (2008, I guess), my friend Rafael Grampá, asked me to draw a pin up for his upcoming book, that would be out by the end of that year.

The book was nothing less than Mesmo Delivery, one of the most acclaimed graphic novels from last year.

Sadly, the pin ups section ended out of the final version, but i couldnt miss the opportunity to draw those super cool characters, at very least, for the pleasure to draw them.

Couple of weeks ago, Grampá has created a blog, featuring other artists versions for Mesmo Delivery universe, and this pin up was recently added to that gallery (with colors by Cris Peter, who also did a nice video with the whole coloring process that can be seen here).
